MLPC MEMBERSHIP

Membership of our organisation is open to everybody who is interested in language, culture and identity. All are most welcome to join our General Membership.

Application form available as a Microsoft Word document here.

General Membership of MLPC costs £15 per annum. All members receive our Newsletter, which is published twice yearly in June and December, which enables members to be kept up to date with news and information of events, meetings, conferences, etc., and for members to air their news and views. Members are always most welcome to attend the MLPC Lectures, which are held once per term on a Saturday morning, and for which members pay the specially reduced fee of £10.

Clinical Network Membership is confined to UKCP or BPC registered psychotherapists and analysts and is aimed at building up a bank of therapists who are able to see clients in various languages, including English. Applicants for Clinical Network Membership must already have applied and been accepted as a General Member of MLPC. An application form for Clinical Network membership has to be completed and a C.V. supplied. In most cases the organisers then need to meet with the applicant. Clinical Network members who receive a referral through the Network are required to pay £40 or the equivalent of the first session.

Network members may receive two types of referrals: open ended therapy or brief therapy of up to twelve sessions. Payment for open-ended work is a matter for negotiation between the therapist and the client. Brief therapy referrals will, however, generally be paid for by MLPC as these will be referrals from GP surgeries. The therapist will then be asked to invoice MLPC at the end of the contract with a brief report of the work and any recommendations. The sessional fee for brief therapy referrals will be £50.

In both types of referral, the therapist will be asked to assess the prospective client and write a brief report. If it is felt that the referral needs a psychiatric assessment, the Network organisers will then make the necessary arrangements. Clinical Network members are asked to attend at least one session of the multi-lingual supervision group. Your work in multi-lingual therapy will be an important source of ideas in for future seminars and discussions.
